NUMBAT CHOCOLATES!!

Project Numbat is excited to be collaborating with the Margaret River Chocolate Company which has been supporting a wide range of community and charitable organisations throughout Western Australia for more than 20 years, including partnerships in the areas of conservation and research of local endangered fauna.

A numbat chocolate has just joined their fundraising range (along with the cute Quokka and Western Swamp Tortoise) and we are thrilled that part proceeds from the sales of the chocolate will be donated to Project Numbat. These funds will enable us to further promote community awareness and conservation efforts for our beloved state emblem, the numbat.

A STATEMENT FROM PROJECT NUMBAT

Project Numbat has received correspondence from our members and the general public regarding the prescribed burn at Perup Nature Reserve on 25 March 2021, and share your concern about the effect of this event on the numbat population.

We note that there appears to be conflicting media reports regarding the burn and its projected impact on numbats. Accordingly, Project Numbat are seeking clarification from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) on the factors that were taken into consideration before conducting the burn, the steps that were taken to limit its effect on numbats, and its anticipated impact on the numbat population. We are also liaising with DBCA regarding identified actions for post-burn monitoring and recovery, and hope to assist DBCA with recovery efforts as necessary.

Project Numbat are heartened by the outpouring of community support for protecting the remaining numbat populations.

Thank you for the continued advocacy of our members for our state mammal emblem.
